Dear Mrs Claire Smith

We are writing because you may have recently been approached by a company called Quality in Tourism (QiT).  The purpose of this letter is to offer some clarification as their approach would appear to have caused some confusion within the tourism industry.

Your assessment rating is awarded by VisitEngland Assessment Services, a new organisation which took over the delivery of the VisitEngland Quality Schemes on 1st April 2017.  Up until this date, Quality in Tourism had been the service delivery provider for VisitEngland, the national tourist board, but was unsuccessful when the service was competitively re-tendered for a new three year period under public procurement rules.  It was important to ensure that service standards continued uninterrupted by this change, and consequently the VisitEngland Assessors also transferred their employment across to our new organisation, VisitEngland Assessment Services.  VisitEngland’s assessors will be familiar to many of you from your years of scheme participation, and you will have had the benefit of their collective wealth of experience in quality assessments.  Led by Annette Burgess, the assessor team has developed close working relationships with all our scheme participants over the many years that VisitEngland’s schemes have been in existence.

We understand that Quality in Tourism, although no longer working for VisitEngland, has chosen to continue in the field of tourism quality assessment.  The schemes offered by Quality in Tourism are not officially part of the Common Standards, which ensure consistent quality standards for visitors across the United Kingdom.  VisitEngland, Visit Wales, VisitScotland, Tourism Northern Ireland and The AA have together drawn up these Common Standards and update them on a regular basis to meet the modern day needs and service expectations of today’s travellers.  For the sake of clarity, any scheme offered by Quality in Tourism is now no longer associated with VisitEngland or any of the other official quality schemes.

Being a participant in one of VisitEngland’s official quality schemes offers your business an official rating and use of the VisitEngland Quality Rose Marque.  In addition, you can take advantage of a number of scheme benefits, including Quality Matters, our new quarterly magazine, discounts and savings with recognised suppliers, such as Sealy Beds and Chargemaster’s electronic car charging points, as well as business insurance, recruitment and booking engines.  VisitEngland Assessment Services are in the process of negotiating a range of further discounts with relevant suppliers that will help you to run your business more cost effectively and are aimed at increasing your profits.

Finally, we shall soon be launching a web presence for all of our scheme participants.  Initially this will involve a basic listing, but over the course of the next few months, our team will be in contact to request images, descriptions and further information to build a full establishment page on our website to showcase your business to consumers.  This will include a direct link to your website, directing potential guests to your business.

May I thank you on behalf of VisitEngland Assessment Services for your continued participation in our schemes.   If you have any queries, please call our customer support team on 01256 491111 or email VisitEnglandAssessmentServices@theAA.com.
